Major changes in energy purchasing. "This is a new chapter in the Polish market."

- A significant change in energy purchasing. Interest in the spot market is declining.
- - If someone is billed based on the standard price list, they are overpaying - says Łukasz Czekała from Optimal Energy.
- Ozeos CEO Zbigniew Kinal believes that now is a good time for consumers looking for an energy profile from photovoltaics.
- On the market you can already buy energy with a storage service.
In the power sector, the first half of 2025, according to data from Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), was marked by an increase in electricity production and a decrease in energy consumption.
According to PSE data, in the first six months of 2025 , electricity production in Poland was 1.46% higher than a year earlier, while consumption was 2.36% lower than a year earlier. Energy production and consumption were balanced by energy exports.

Under these conditions, electricity prices in the first half of 2025, year-on-year, were favorable, including for business customers, who no longer benefit from special, statutory prices from the beginning of 2025. The past six months of 2025 also saw changes in energy contracting practices, and new commercial offers emerged.
A significant change in energy purchasing. Interest in the spot market is declining.- Our observations show that energy consumers are currently leaving contracts indexed to energy prices from the spot market and are entering into futures contracts to a greater extent - says Zbigniew Kinal , CEO of Ozeos.
The manager points out that this is a significant change , because just 1-2 years ago, when the downward trend in spot market prices was clear, there were companies that purchased energy only at prices indexed to the wholesale spot market.
Zbigniew Kinal says that interest in the spot market is decreasing because energy prices have changed so much that the largest consumers can buy energy in futures contracts for 2026 with a fixed price at a level slightly higher than the current average spot market price.

He emphasizes that energy prices for companies in fixed-price futures contracts for 2026 are lower than a year ago in such contracts for 2025.
- Currently, at the beginning of the second half of 2025, in fixed-price contracts, business customers can buy electricity for 2026 at a price in the range of PLN 450-500/MWh , while a year ago, energy for 2025 in fixed-price contracts was priced at PLN 530-550/MWh - enumerates Zbigniew Kinal.
He adds that in 2024, business energy consumers who delayed purchasing energy until 2025 and didn't buy at the beginning of 2024 benefited as prices fell. He claims that this scenario is repeating itself this year.
Łukasz Czekała , president of Optimal Energy, owner of a price comparison website for electricity, among other things, also draws attention to changes in energy prices on the spot and futures markets.
"If someone is billed based on the standard price list, they are overpaying"Łukasz Czekała says that the average purchase price of electricity for companies that purchased electricity in the model based on spot market quotations in the first half of 2025 was approximately 10 percent higher than in the first half of 2024 (an increase from approximately PLN 480/MWh net to PLN 530/MWh net).
- In the case of contracts with a so-called price guarantee for the next one or two years , we see the opposite trend . In the first half of 2024, the average price was approximately PLN 570/MWh, and in 2025 it is approximately PLN 530/MWh - points out Łukasz Czekała.
He also points out that the rates depend on the volume of energy the customer consumes/purchases, as well as the seller's margin.

Łukasz Czekała reports that, on the electricity price comparison website Optimal Energy , multi-year offers with price guarantees predominate for businesses. He also highlights the so-called standard price lists of the largest energy groups in Poland.
"As long as the maximum price was in force, they were not updated, and in the C11 tariff, prices exceeded PLN 2,000/MWh. In the first half of 2025, companies updated these price lists , which are between PLN 800/MWh and less than PLN 1,000/MWh. Now we return to the main benefit of the TPA rule, i.e. the activity of entrepreneurs themselves," emphasizes Łukasz Czekała.
TPA (third-party access) is the so-called third-party access principle. It obliges the grid operator to make the grid available for any contract. Thanks to this, energy consumers can freely choose their electricity supplier.
- If someone is billed based on the standard price list, they are overpaying - says Łukasz Czekała.
A good time to buy energy from photovoltaicsZbigniew Kinal, commenting on the first half of 2025 on the electricity market in Poland, says that photovoltaic energy producers find themselves in a special situation due to the development of this technology and the large supply of PV energy.
" The PV market price profile is lower this year than a year ago. As a result, PV energy producers who didn't have sales contracts with energy consumers or trading companies and sold energy on the spot market are actively seeking futures contracts," reports Zbigniew Kinal.
The CEO of Ozeos indicates that, seeking revenue stabilization, PV farms are willing to enter into cPPA contracts for shorter periods than they did a year or two ago. He comments that this is a good time for customers seeking a PV energy profile.

- According to our knowledge, PV energy prices in cPPA contracts have fallen below PLN 300/MWh this year - explains Zbigniew Kinal.
You can now buy energy with a storage serviceKinal highlights new types of offers.
" A new trend on the market , a new trend that wasn't visible six months ago, is energy sales with storage. Ozeos has already published the first such offers for 2026 from energy producers who are building energy storage facilities and plan to launch them in 2026," he reports.
It states that the sale of energy combined with its storage service is a new chapter in the Polish energy market , creating a number of additional opportunities for consumers.
- Such possibilities as storing renewable energy purchased under a cPPA contract from a photovoltaic farm, which cannot be used on an ongoing basis during the day and collected in the evening, or buying energy from the Polish Power Exchange (TGE) in winter to a warehouse when it is cheapest and collecting it when it is needed - comments Zbigniew Kinal.
According to Zbigniew Kinal, energy storage will soon change the electricity market and commercial products are currently being created for the service of selling energy with storage.
"As Ozeos, we are participating in the development of these products together with renewable energy developers. These are products that will increase the level of renewable energy use by consumers," he argues.
